3D and Photo Printer

A guide for using Squires 3D printer

Filaments

The three main types of filament used in 3D printing are ABS, PETG, and PLA. Although we do have several of each filament type in our inventory, we do recommend using only PLA filaments, as that's what the settings on the 3D printer are currently set up for.

On the 3D printer's touchscreen, you will go to the "Utilities" tab and and select the option for either loading filament or unloading filament. Below are the entry and exit points of the filament guide tubes and the right-side filament storage box.

In order to unload filament, you must remove the plastic guide tube from the nozzle attachment. To do so, you will press down on the metal ring surrounding the tube and pull the tube out. When you select the "Unload" icon next to the nozzle that you will be unloading, the nozzle will begin to heat up, and once it reaches the necessary temperature, select "Unload" again. The nozzle will snip off the excess filament so that you can rewind it back onto its spool and will also extrude any filament still left in the nozzle. Be sure to click the "OK" icon once all the excess filament has been extruded.

The process for loading filament is simply the reverse of unloading. Feed the filament through the guide tube from inside the filament storage box. On the machine's touchscreen, go back to the "Utilities" tab and select the "Load" icon next to the nozzle that you will be loading. Again, the nozzle will heat up, and once it has reached the necessary temperature, select "Load" again. Feed the new filament through the nozzle opening and hold it there until the filament begins to be pulled into the nozzle. Allow the nozzle to extrude filament until all of the excess filament that had just been previously unloaded is replaced with the new filament. Snap the guide tube back into place and click the "OK" icon to finish the loading process.
