Online Resources
Many resources exist in addition to those offered through the library. One excellent resource for the criminal justice discipline is the United States Government. The U.S. government offers access to documents and publications that may be critical to your research in the criminal justice field. A great place to start your research is to begin at the USA.gov website. This will allow you to search for information "by service or government agency" (Lamb). Find datasets and statistical information by visiting DATA.gov and the Federal Committee on Statistical Methodology.

The Bureau of Justice StatisticsThe Bureau of Justice Statistics claims to be “the United States' primary source for criminal justice statistics.” Find stats on crime, criminals, victims & the court system.
Compendium of National Juvenile Justice DatasetsA service of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, the Compendium of National Juvenile Justice Data Sets provides access to info about juveniles, specifically in conjunction with the criminal justice system. Each dataset includes a summary, methodology, list of publications, and contacts.
Crime SolutionsCrime Solutions reviews and rates programs and practices to help determine which are most or least effective, and which are emerging as ways to promote criminal and juvenile justice. Results provide a meta-analysis of outcomes and methodology.FBI: Uniform Crime Reporting
The Uniform Crime Reporting site provides access to current and archived statistics collected by the Federal Bureau of Investigations since 1930. These stats are available in form of 4 annual publications; Crime in the United States, National Incident-Based Reporting System, Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted, and Hate Crime Statistics, as well as information from the Summary Reporting System (SRS) and the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). Special reports are also available, such as one on human trafficking and cargo theft.

Office for Victims of CrimeA part of the Office of Justice Programs, the Office for Victims of Crime provides student researchers with information about aid available for crime victims, state specific resources, opportunities for additional training, the rights of crime victims, news articles, and other related publications.
U.S. Sentencing CommissionPart of the judicial branch, the U.S. Sentencing Commission provides access to information about “federal sentencing practices” including full text access to the guidelines manual, as well as related research, statistics, and reports about penalties and sentencing in the U.S.
